Rachel Ambrose, Personnel Clerk for the Missouri Veterans Home – St. James, was selected as the January 2019 Missouri Veterans Commission Employee of the Month.

Rachel was nominated by her peers and selected because she is always ready to assist employees with any needs they have.

Rachel is dependable, loyal to the employees and Veterans, and even when things are getting a little hectic she still presents herself in a calm, efficient and willing to help manner. Not only is she a team player but she also takes the time for staff to understand a little more about the world of human resources in terms that everyone can understand.

Rachel’s dependability was especially noticeable this year during open enrollment. There were changes to the insurance benefits for the first time in years and she took the initiative to spend the time researching all the changes so that she could gain knowledge to pass on to the employees.

While employed with the Missouri Veterans Commission Rachel has day after day exemplified true dedication to the Commission's Mission Statement of honoring and serving our Veterans. She is a true role model for all Commission staff and her dedication for those we serve reflects well on the Commission as a whole and on herself in particular. Jamie Straisinger, Activity Aide II for the Missouri Veterans Home – Warrensburg, was selected as the February 2019 Missouri Veterans Commission Employee of the Month.

Jamie was nominated by her peers and selected because she is an outstanding employee that truly sets an example that her peers and co-workers can look up to.

Jamie is always working hard, with an upbeat attitude, striving each day to enrich the lives of the Veterans and families she serves by filling the Veterans' days with purpose and add extra meaning to their lives.

Jamie’s dedication to go above and beyond truly shows especially when she manages all the activities for a Neighborhood of 50 by herself and her willingness to volunteer her time as a CNA to help cover shifts during busy times of the year.

While employed with the Missouri Veterans Commission Jamie has day after day exemplified true dedication to the Commission's Mission Statement of honoring and serving our Veterans. She is a true role model for all Commission staff and her dedication for those we serve reflects well on the Commission as a whole and on herself in particular.

Schyler Harris, Restorative Aide for the Missouri Veterans Home – St. James

Schyler was nominated by her peers and selected because of the way she is always creating moments of joy for Veterans, staff and volunteers.

Schyler is always smiling, happy-go-lucky, and encourages the veterans to come in and do their daily routines to improve the quality of their lives, helping them be as active as physically possible. The Veterans love her dedication and infectious energy. She is able to get even the most reluctant Veteran to exercise, tailoring her schedule to meet their needs.

Schyler serves extra hours and shifts in nursing while still maintaining her Veteran's restorative therapy program and this dedication has been a part of Schyler's service since she started at MVH-St. James six years ago and has never wavered.

While employed with the Missouri Veterans Commission Schyler has day after day exemplified true dedication to the Commission's Mission Statement of honoring and serving our Veterans. Amy Ash, Social Worker for the Missouri Veterans Home – Mt. Vernon

Amy was nominated by her peers and selected because the Veterans she takes care of constantly say she works very hard and takes care of any problems they have. The Veterans also say Amy goes above and beyond and that she treats them like they matter. Amy is willing to take on tasks with a good attitude including coordinating a procedure done for a Veteran that has dramatically improved his quality of life.

Amy shows all Veterans & Families courtesy and respect and is able to tell you each of her Veteran’s needs and works tirelessly to address them. She has worked late without complaint when a Veteran needed help and is a great asset to the social work team, helping the other social workers when they need help and assisting their transition in to new positions.

Tina Schirmer, Unit Manager for the Missouri Veterans Home – Cape Girardeau

Tina was nominated by her peers and selected because of her heroic actions during an emergent situation when a special care unit Veteran was being dropped off by a friend in the parking lot of facility. The Veteran was left in the truck and got into the driver's seat and began to drive in the parking lot. Tina saw him do this from the other side of the lot and immediately went to his aid. She took action by getting into the truck and putting it in park and removing the keys. Tina not only possibly saved the life of the Veteran, but she put her own life at risk by jumping into the truck.

She is a true role model for all Commission staff and her dedication for those we serve reflects well on the Commission as a whole and on herself in particular.

Brenda Farmer, Custodial Worker II for the Missouri Veterans Home – Warrensburg, was selected as the June 2019 Missouri Veterans Commission Employee of the Month.

Brenda was nominated by her peers and selected because she is a person who can be counted on to perform her job thoroughly and is always wearing a smile. Brenda goes above and beyond by volunteering to cover shifts when shorthanded.

It is obvious Brenda cares about our Veterans and does everything she can to provide a clean home and living environment for the people we care about the most--our Veterans. She is a true asset to the Environmental Services Department and the entire Warrensburg Veterans Home.
