Missouri Veterans Commission to Host a Veterans Town Hall Meeting November 18 2010 at the Harry S Truman Library & Museum
The Missouri Veterans Commission will hold a Veterans Town Hall meeting at the Harry S Truman Library & Museum, 500 West US Highway 24, Independence, Missouri on Thursday, November 18 from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm.
Building on the success of last year's statewide series of veterans listening posts, the town hall forum invites veterans and the public to receive answers to their questions about federal and state veteran's benefits and share their concerns about the issues veterans are facing now and in the future. Service Officers will also be available so veterans can file for benefits.
On hand to answer questions will be a panel comprised of the Missouri Veterans Commission, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Service Organizations, and other benefits and healthcare experts.
Presentations will be given by Hope Bishop and Mary Durken with the Kansas City VA Medical Center on PSTD and suicide prevention.
"We learned last year through the Veterans Listening Posts that knowledge of all the available state and federal benefits as well as access to those benefits is a primary concern of all veterans and their families," said Veterans Commission Executive Director Larry Kay, "the town hall forum is a continuation of the listening posts to allow veterans to ask questions and continue to gain a better understanding of their benefits."
The Missouri Veterans Commission operates seven State Veterans Homes, six State Veterans Cemeteries, and the Veterans Services Program. The Commission is committed to honoring and serving Missouri's Veterans whose dedication and sacrifices have preserved our nation and its freedoms.
